Gamer’s Review: Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures

Released in 2005 (same year Code Lyoko’s second season aired) on PlayStation 2, Xbox & Nintendo GameCube, “Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures” earned mixed reviews from critics, fans and gamers alike. For those who aren’t aware, All episodes of “Ed, Edd n Eddy” and their movie, “Big Picture Show” are now streaming on Tubi. As a huge fan of the cartoon growing up, I wanna share my opinion on their video game.

Rich & Poor Qualities

Rich: Voice Actors reprise their roles and they all did a splendid job for their respective voiceover performances.

Unlike most video game adaptations, this one doesn’t follow an original story. Each level’s loosely based on episodes from the show.

The game retains the show’s slapstick humor and Ed’s non-sequiturs.

Soundtrack borrows instrumental tracks from the show.

Gameplay/Mechanics

  • Presented as a third-person action-adventure platformer, you play as the Eds in levels doing whatever they can achieve a goal. Most notably, jawbreakers.
  • Each character has a melee and range attack. Ed can slam his head and lift objects with his bare hands. Double D uses a ruler and slingshot. Eddy uses a yo-yo and a mini-stink bomb which stuns enemies.
  • The Cul-De-Sac serves as the main hub. Explore the neighborhood. Unfortunately, you can’t visit houses.
  • Tag-Team’s a unique mechanic. Each one has a specific formation. Ed’s “Batter Ed” smashes through barrier. Double D’s “Trampol Edd” let’s him jump onto high surfaces. Eddy’s Tower-of-Eddy allows him and his pals to walk narrow beams and grab objects in high places.
  • Blue orbs restore your health.
  • Catching a chicken earns you an egg. Collecting all six eggs per level unlocks stuff like concept art, gameplay augments, a music video based on Plank and a behind-the-scenes recording of the cast.
  • Jawbreakers are scattered across levels. A gumball machine dispensing jawbreakers can be bought with coins. The more you buy, the price increases. Obtaining all 40 jawbreakers unlocks cheat options. For instance, fast run makes you run like Speedy Gonzalez.
  • A costume unlocks a bonus level.

Callbacks to notable episodes.

  • Second level involving Jimmy having a birthday party = “In Like Ed.”
  • Third level’s a combination of “Don’t Rain on My Ed” and “X Marks the Ed.”
  • Ed hitting his head on the ground recreates his “I’m a woodpecker” scene in “Stop, Look and Ed.”
  • Fourth level with the Eds trying to earn an Urban Ranger badge already happened in “Oath to an Ed.”
  • Fifth level with the Eds exploring an abandoned house with traps is taken from “Honor Thy Ed.”
  • Sixth level loosely borrows the plot from “O-Ed Eleven.”
  • Eddy’s mini-stink bomb = “Fool on the Ed.”
  • A jawbreaker gumball machine = Prize Grabber from “Who Let the Ed In?”
  • First Bonus Level: Ed’s giant monster outfit is the exact same one in “The Day the Ed Stood Still.”
  • Second Bonus Level: Double D & Eddy pretending to fight robots borrows a cue from “Dawn of the Eds.”

Random Thoughts

  1. As I recall, I may have gotten this game around Christmas 2005.
  2. It would be awesome if the voice actors of the Eds attend Fan Expo Dallas 2026 or a future fan convention in Dallas. I’d be the first in line to get an autograph and selfie combo from each one. It’s on my bucket list of people I wanna take my pic.

Poor: Graphics and Character Models are ugly. Kevin’s face is uncanny.

It took me approximately two hours to complete the entire game on 100%.

You can’t equip additional costumes besides space suits. It would’ve been nice to include alternate outfits for the Eds. For example, Ed dresses up as Eddy from the truth or dare episode, “Mirror, mirror on the Ed.”

The Kanker Sisters are the only enemies who partake in boss battles. The developers and writers wasted a golden opportunity to let Ed become the boss pretending to be a giant monster. Heck, have the Eds runway from Sarah like a “Crash Bandicoot” level.

There are six main levels and two bonus levels. Racking up a total of eight. That seems very low.

Repeated dialogue every time a character like Double D exclaims “how intriguing” while activating a mechanism or Ed digging saying “Dig a hole, dig a hole, dig a hole!” You can tell the developers, writers and voice actors didn’t have enough time to polish a game.

The Final Verdict: D, FOR DORKS!

Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures didn’t capture the same magic from the first four seasons. I didn’t like Seasons 5-6 when the cast go to school. As a fan of Ed, Edd n Eddy, it didn’t stick the landing. If you wanna relive the good old days, watch all episodes on Tubi and don’t forget to watch the grand finale, Big Picture Show. It’s been two decades since we got an Ed, Edd n Eddy game. It would be awesome if they get a good one allowing the writers and developers to give them proper tools without a deadline.
