The House Bunny

After completing unfunny comedies “Scary Movie 4” & “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” Anna Faris pitched an idea about a Playboy bunny evicted from the mansion who becomes depressed and takes a path to drug addiction. Sceenwriters, Karen McCullah & Kristen Smith suggest a lighter and feel-good tone like their big hit, “Legally Blonde.” This time, have the Playboy bunny help a sorority of outcasts help them raise money by getting a sexy makeover. Thus, “The House Bunny” was green-lit and produced by Adam Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison.

Released in 2008, (same year Step Brothers came out) it received mixed reviews from critics and was a success at the box office. Anyway, Emma Stone (one of my Top 5 favorite actresses) will star in Yorgos Lantimos’ upcoming sci-fi comedy, “Bugonia.” Before one of my highly anticipated movies of 2025 comes out in October 24, I wanna share my thoughts on The House Bunny.” It’s a guilty pleasure of mine. By the way, Anna Faris will reprise her role as Cindy Campbell in “Scary Movie 6.” This one’s gonna sink like the previous ones.

Today’s review contains no SPOILERS whatsoever.

Hot & Ugly Aspects

Hot: Anna Faris, Emma Stone, Kat Dennings, Rumer Willis, Cheeta Girls member, Kiely Williams, former American Idol contestant, Katherine McPhee, Colin Hanks and lead singer of The All-American Rejects, Tyson Ritter all did a decent job for their respective performances.

Adam Sandler served as an executive producer along with Allen Covert.

Humor has a bunch of funny moments that made me laugh. Especially, Shelley speaking like Freddy Krueger to help her remember a person. Every single joke is ten times funnier than these unfunny comedies from 2008. It wasn’t a good year for comedy.

Cinematography was shot normally without any technical problems.

Chemistry between Shelley and the Zeta Girls serve as the main highlight.

Pacing wasn’t a slow burn like “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert.” I know it’s a short concert movie, but I was miserably bored to death. I don’t like Miley Cyrus’ music and her unfunny TV show, “Hannah Montana”

Kat Dennings’ character, Mona is my favorite. After she got her makeover, she becomes hotter. I’m giving Ms. Dennings Bonus Points for her snarky acting and her sexiness. She’s one of my celeb crushes. Andrew W.K.’s a lucky dude. If I had to switch bodies like Rob Schneider did with Rachel McAdams in “The Hot Chick,” I would pick Andrew W.K. So, I can give Kat a smooch. I’m a gentleman. Go easy on the kissing.

Random Thought: I don’t have the hots for the rest of the female characters. Just, Mona.

My favorite line from Mona is, “Wow you hired The Exorcist that’s great!”

Somebody mentioned Yoda. It’s funny because “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated movie and TV series came out the exact same year.

A Plot Twist’s revealed. Way better than M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Happening.” Heck, better than “Speed Racer.”

Beverly D’Angelo & Christopher McDonald have brief roles.

Shaquille “Shaq” O’Neal, Allen Covert & Nick Swardson make cameo appearances.

Ugly: Hugh “Hef” Hefner himself appears. This is before an A&E documentary, “Secrets of Playboy” exposed his dark secrets. He drugged, manipulated and molested models. Looking back at this movie can be uncomfortable. Satan’s now shoving pineapples up Hef’s ass like he did to Hitler in “Little Nicky.” Shelley’s lucky she left the Playboy Mansion. She’s better off with the Zeta Girls

A temporary break-up between Shelley and the Zeta Girls happened. In most buddy cop and rom-coms, you know a pair or more are gonna get back together, put aside their differences and finish what they started. I find it predictable.

The Final Verdict: B, FOR BEAUTY!

The House Bunny remains as a guilty pleasure of mine. If you haven’t seen it, you’re gonna laugh so hard.
