Set before The Arrancar Arc, this filler storyline centers on Ichigo who’s assigned as a bodyguard to a little girl named, Rurichiyo Kasumiōji from bad guys. Meanwhile, Shūsuke Amagai is appointed as a new captain. Last but not least, conspiracy tied to the princess and villains. It’s up to Ichigo and his pals to find out who’s traitor.
The New Captain Shūsuke Amagai Arc officially aired in 2010 (same year Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood came out) on Adult Swim. It received mixed reception from critics, fans and viewers alike. It’s confirmed Stephanie Sheh (Orihime) will attend Fan Expo Dallas 2026 on September 11-13. I got plans to take my pics with Elijah Wood & Sean Astin. Hopefully, I want my pic with Ms. Sheh. She’s my favorite voice actress.
Today’s review contains no SPOILERS.
Sharp & Rusty Qualities
Sharp: Voice Actors all did a fantastic job for their respective voiceover performances.
Action Sequences are pretty good.
This filler arc expands the lore involving the Soul Society.
Funny Moments in between.
You can skip this filler arc. Has nothing to do with the Hueco Mondo Arc. Think of the former as a DLC expansion like Fallout: New Vegas’s DLC story, “Dead Money.”
Somebody’s a traitor within the Soul Society. Like I haven’t seen that before. *cough* Soul Society Arc! *cough*
The princess herself can be annoying at times. She acts like a spoiled brat.
Rusty: Pacing issues in between episodes. Can be occasionally boring.
The villain isn’t as interesting as memorable bad guys, Aizen, Grimmjaw and the high ranking Arrancar group, Espada.
The Final Verdict: B-
The New Captain Shūsuke Amagai Arc is average. At least it’s not a dud like the Bount Arc. Again, you don’t have to go through this filler arc. I have yet to go through Thousand-Year Blood War. Bear with me, I got a lot of movies and TV shows on my plate. Plus, I’m prepping up for Fan Expo Dallas 2026. One guy can’t do everything all at once.
