Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle – Part 1

Picking up immediately where Demon Slayer’s 63rd episode left off, Tanjiro Kamado, Inosuke, Zenitsu and their allies stumble upon a trap set up by Muzan. They’re transported to his base of operations, the Infinity Castle. A labyrinth of tall buildings moving up and down. Our heroes fight combat powerful demons, Doma Kaigaku & Akaza. Due to the length of the final story arc, Infinity Castle’s split into three parts intended as a film trilogy. Kinda like splitting “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” into two films.

Part 1 was officially released in 2025 (same year Chainsaw Man: The Rez Arc came out) earning huge praise from critics, fans and movie goers alike. Plus, it broke a box office records as the highest-grossing Japanese film beating Demon Slayer’s previous installment, “Mugen Train” and the highest-grossing R-rates animated film. Infinity Castle Parts 2-3 are in production. They’re slated to come out in 2027 and 2028. As I prep up, I wanna share my opinion on Part 1.

Strong & Weak Aspects

Strong: Voice Actors reprise their roles and they all did a superb job for their respective voiceover performances.

Channing Tatum has a voiceover role as Keizo. I refuse to away his involvement. His character’s linked to a prominent character.

Animation looks gorgeous effectively blending 2D and 3D format. You can tell the animators worked their butts off perfecting animation quality.

Action Sequences retains the show’s stylized battles. I was on the edge of my seat.

Flashbacks provide context on our heroes. We also learn about the lives of the demons. They were once human.

Each hero has an epic moment.

Thank goodness Zenitzu doesn’t act like a whiny brat. He’s serious this time. The orange dude has a personal score with a demon from his past. A breath of fresh air.

The Tone’s serious with a little bit of comedy.

A Cliffhanger sets up Part 2. Story’s not over.

Random Thought: I never got a chance to see Part 1 on the big screen.

Weak: Not really a drawback. If you’re watching Infinity Castle lacking knowledge of all previous 63 episodes and Mugen Train, you’re gonna be lost. It’s a requirement to get caught up.

Pacing issues alternate between flashbacks and fight scenes. Often repetitive shifting back and forth. Part 1’s duration is 2 hours and 35 minutes long. I don’t mind long films, but you have to be precise. Get the viewer to indulge an epic film on a grand scale. Don’t overdue talky talky dialogue. “the Lord of the Rings Trilogy” managed to balance action and drama perfectly. The Extended Editions to it to another level giving us prominent footage not shown in the theatrical cut.

The Final Verdict: A-

A near-perfect beginning of a trilogy, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle – Part 1 raises both psychical and emotional stakes. You wanna see your favorite characters make it out. If you’re new to Demon Slayer, watch all 63 episodes and Mugen Train. Then, check out Infinity Castle Part 1 before Parts 2-3 come out in 2027 and 2028.
