Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl

In 1989, British animators Nick Park & Peter Lord developed a Claymation short film titled, “A Grand Day Out.” An eccentric cheese loving inventor named, Wallace and his pet dog, Gromit go to the moon to obtain a bunch of cheese while going on a picnic. A Grand Day Out earned praise followed by two acclaimed shorts “A Close Shave” & “The Wrong Trousers.” The latter won an Oscar for “Best Animated Short Film.” One day, two clay models of Wallace and Gromit were accidently left behind in a cab. As a result, the duo became popular outside the UK. Nick & Peter further pushed their production company Aardman Animations to another level making their first full-length feature, “Chicken Run.”

My first exposure to Wallace and Gromit was a promo of Cartoon Network’s Cartoon Theatre. In 2005, the duo starred in their first theatrical movie, “The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.” It later won an Oscar for “Best Animated Feature.” Nearly 20 Years Later, a second theatrical movie “Vengeance Most Fowl” aired on BBC in 2024 and streamed on Netflix on January 1, 2025 earning critical acclaim. The sequel was nominated at the Golden Globes for “Best Animated Feature.” Unfortunately, it lost to “Flow.”

Before the upcoming 2025 Academy Awards air/stream on ABC & Hulu. I wanna share my thoughts on Vengeance Most Fowl. I guarantee it’ll be nominated at the Oscars. I haven’t got a chance to post my Top 12 Films of 2024. I got a lot on my plate. First, I gotta watch a ton of movies from last year before I rank which ones deserve to be on the Top 12 List. So, bear with me folks.

Today’s review contains no SPOILERS. I’m giving you a chance to see the latest entry in the Wallace and Gromit series.

Smart & Dumb Qualities

Smart: Ben Whitehead did a fantastic job for his voiceover performance as Wallace. He sounds a lot like his predecessor, the late Peter Sallis.

Nick Park did a superb job directing.

Animation still has that Claymation atmosphere. Aardman managed to complete the sequel using remaining clay. Lewis Newsplat was shut down in 2023. Thankfully, Aardman will find a new supplier for future projects.

Lorne Balfe (The Lego Batman Movie, Mission Impossible: Fallout, Black Widow) & Julian Nott orchestrated the soundtrack.

Humor has a ton of legit funny moments that made me laugh.

Pacing for 79-minute animated movie felt stable. More entertaining than “Kinds of Kindness.”

Set after The Wrong Trousers, criminal penguin mastermind, Feathers McGraw seeks revenge on the duo. His plan is to frame Wallace by sabotaging his latest invention, a robotic gnome.

Mackintosh from The Curse of the Were-Rabbit returns. He’s tied to the plot.

A diamond plays a big role.

Dumb: I couldn’t find nothing wrong. I’m giving Nick and his crew and Extra Point for making a worthy follow-up to an Oscar winning animated short film as possible.

The Final Verdict: A, FOR APEX!

Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is an outstanding sequel. If you’re a fan of Wallace and Gromit, it’s a must see. Stream it on Netflix. The duo has a bright future ahead of them. I can’t wait to them in a possible third movie. I consider this as my favorite animated movie of 2024.
