“Sid And Judy” officially aired in 2019 (same year Avengers: Endgame came out) on Showtime around the same time Renee Zellweger’s “Judy” came out. I received positive reactions from critics and viewers alike.
As you may know, Awards Season is ongoing from November to The Oscars airing next year on March. I wanna share my thoughts on Sid And Judy, because I’m fascinated with documentaries related to actors/actresses. I already talked about Judy’s professional and personal life on my previous reviews “Life With Judy Garland: Me And My Shadow” & Judy. Don’t forget to check em’ out. in 2022, which is Judy’s 100th birthday, Ariana Grande (stated Judy Garland is one of her heroes) will portray Glinda The Good Witch in the upcoming prequel to “The Wizard Of Oz” known as “Wicked.” I’m setting my expectations low, because “Oz The Great And Powerful” was an epic disappointment.
We all know Judy died from a drug overdose. I’ll do my best sharing my thoughts on this documentary. Unlike movies, I won’t go overboard relying on copious details, because documentaries speak for themselves. This article is pretty short, so bear with me fellas.
Bright & Dark Aspects
Bright: The documentary uncovers interesting facts about Judy’s marriage with Sid Luft told in their memoirs, audio tapes, personal home videos, photographs and interviews.
Achieve Footage of Judy’s filmography and performing on stage are included to honor her legacy.
Despite not interviewed, Gene Kelly, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, Mickey Rooney, Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra appear in footage.
Jon Hamm & Jennifer Jason Leigh provide the voices of Sid And Judy based on their memoirs. The pair never got a chance to record their actual voices.
Prior to her marriage with Sid, Judy married filmmaker Vincente Minnelli. Their only child is known other than Liza Minnelli.
Before Christian Bale, Daniel Day-Lewis, Russell Crowe, Edward Norton, Sean Penn & Colin Farrell, it’s revealed Judy was difficult to work on set. She also did numerous takes to perfect her Oscar winning song, “The Man That Got Away.” Judy is arguably the first Method Actress and Marlon Brando was the first Method Actor before any of the aforementioned Method Actors and Method Actresses Natalie Portman, Margot Robbie, Anne Hathaway & Charlize Theron. That’s right Judy Garland is without a doubt, the best actress in “The Golden Age Of Hollywood.”
I forgot to mentioned on my previous reviews related to Judy. I think her best work is “Meet Me In St. Louis.” Plus, it’s also one of my favorite Christmas movies.
The End Credits shows footage of fans expressing various reasons why Judy made a timeless impact.
Dark: No issues were found. I’m giving the documentary an Extra Point for telling a fascinating yet tragic life story of Judy’s life.
The Final Verdict: A, FOR APEX!
Sid And Judy is a fascinating yet sad documentary uncovering more details about Judy Garland’s tragic life and marriage with Sid Luft. If you have a thing for documentaries involving famous people like me, I strongly recommend this one. Don’t forget to check out others like “Belushi,” “Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind” & “What Happened To Brittany Murphy?”
