Gamer’s Review: Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter

Set ten years after “The Phantom Menace” and “Stargfighter,” Jedi Master, Adi Gallia pilots the Galactic Republic’s prototype ship, Jedi Starfighter. She joins forces with space pirate, Nym, Reti and other characters from the first game. They must prevent the Trade Federation’s scheme from creating a deadly weapon in the Clone Wars. “Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter” was officially released in March 11, 2002 (same year Sly Cooper came out) on PlayStation 2. Approximately two months before “Attack of the Clones opened worldwide. It received positive reviews from critics, fans and gamers alike. Two Months Later, the game came out on Xbox.

I have a few reasons why I wanna review Jedi Starfighter. Mark your calendar, folks.

  1. Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Mando in “The Mandalorian and Grogu.” It’s coming in May 22, 2026.
  2. Ryan Gosling will headline Starfigthter. Not a 100% adaptation of the game. It’s a film set five years after “The Rise of Skywalker.” Shawn Levy’s set to direct. It’ll be released on May 28, 2027. The exact same month Attack of the Clones turns 25.
  3. “Galactic Racer,” a podracing game like the N64 game is set to be released sometime around 2026.
  4. “Fate of the Old Republic“ is currently in development. Game developer, Casey Hudson intends to complete it before 2030.

It doesn’t matter if SPOILERS are mentioned. This game’s no longer canon.

Light Side & Dark Side Aspects

Light Side: Voice Actors all did a decent job for their respective voiceover performances.

Temuera Morrison reprises his role as Jango Fett in a cameo appearance piloting his ship. His solo game, “Bounty Hunter” came out six months after Attack of the Clones opened worldwide.

Graphics for a PS2/Xbox game still hold up.

Gameplay/Mechanics retains core elements from the first game. Fire lasers and missiles. Order your squadmates to attack or defend a target. Complete secondary and hidden objectives to unlock juicy stuff such as concept art, outtakes, ships and audio commentary by the developers.

Random Thoughts

  1. I got Jedi Starfighter as a birthday present along with Spider-Man and the first Starfighter game. I was nine back then. I miss my childhood. Didn’t have to worry about grown up stuff.
  2. My favorite level is when Adi arrives in Geonosis. Leading up to the Jedi rescuing Anakin, Obi-Wan & Padme.
  3. My favorite unlock in the game are the outtakes. Bounty Hunter also included some bloopers. You can tell the developers at LucasArts were having a good time.

Adi & Nym can use secondary force powers/arsenal. The former can use her force powers like a shield and slow down time. Timing a force powers correctly means her shield is purple. If not timed properly, it’s just blue. Adi’s powers take time to recharge.

Adi’s chemistry with her new allies serve as the main highlight.

John Williams score from the films are retained.

Sound Effects from the films are also retained.

Captain Toth’s the main antagonist. He created hex missiles for the Trade Federation. Toth’s a solid villain along with Montross & Komari Vosa. The latter two are from Bounty Hunter.

Dark Side: Nobody addresses Rhys Dallows absence. He’s one of the playable characters from the first game.

It took me ten hours to 100% the game. Regardless on any difficulty, it’s a short game like its predecessor.

After Captain Toth’s defeat, Nym’s pal, Vana searches for Reti. Leading up to a sequel. Unfortunately, a third game never came into fruition. Now that Jedi Starfighter is no longer canon, it’s never going to happen.

The Final Verdict: B, FOR BIGGER AND BETTER!

Jedi Starfighter remains as one of my favorite Star Wars related games growing up. I was this close to giving it a mediocre grade, a B-. I bumped to grade up to a B. Because I had fond memories playing on the PS2 growing up. If you wanna introduce your kids to Jedi Starfighter, buy it on the PlayStation Store or subscribe to Premium membership along with a ton of games you get can purchase for free. Which Star Wars game are you looking forward to the most? Please leave a comment. I got my eye on Fate of the Republic. Not to worry, I got a lot of stuff to keep myself occupied.
