Now now, this has nothing to do with “House of Mouse.” This is an eight issue limited series titled, “House of M” set within the Marvel Universe. Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff loses her mind which causes her to create a world where mutants are hate humans. Many heroes got their memories altered. Except for my number one Marvel hero, Wolverine who’s the only one not affected. He encounters Luke Cage who is the leader or a human resistance group who battle Magneto. This time he’s a tyrant and ruler of Genosha. Wolverine must convince the heroes to undo Wanda’s spell.
House of M was officially published in 2005 (same year Dreamer came out) earning praise from critics, readers and fans alike. Element of the storyline was loosely adapted in “WandaVision.” Anyway, Wanda’s love interest, Vision will get his own mini-series on Disney Plus titled, “VisionQuest.” Paul Bettany will reprise his role as the character. It’ll stream in late 2026. Probably around the same time as the highly anticipated movie, “Avengers: Doomsday.” I can’t wait to see my favorite superhero team, the X-Men to join forces with Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four & Avengers so they can duke it out with Doctor Doom.
Today’s review contains no crucial SPOILERS. I’m giving you a chance to read this gem.
Strong & Weak Aspects
Strong: Brian Michael Mendes did a terrific job writing all eight issues.
Oliver Coipel did a solid job on the artwork.
Action Sequences are really good. Giving certain panels a cinematic quality.
Chemistry with various heroes serve as the main highlight. They band together to undo Scarlet Witch’s spell.
House of M also has tie-in comics focusing on characters within the world Wanda has created. Wanna know how many are accumulated? 42. Now if you add the main storyline’s eight issues you get 50. Holy Moley! A ridiculous amount. You don’t have to read every single tie-in. It’s optional. I decide to skip ‘em. I don’t have time to go through all of ‘em. I got a lot of movies and shows on my plate.
Pacing didn’t feel fast. Felt stable.
Hawkeye has an important role. For those who read, “Avengers Disassembled,” you probably know why.
A little girl named, Layla factors in. She has the ability to “awake” our heroes.
In case you didn’t read the previous crossover storyline, Avengers Disassembled, callbacks will help you understand. Thankfully, it’s not required to read the previous storyline.
Without giving too much away, the last issue changes the status quo of the Marvel Universe. Especially the X-Men lore.
Weak: Somehow, Wolverine’s the only one who regains his memories. Doesn’t make logical sense. To quote Deadpool, “Well, that’s just lazy writing.”
The Final Verdict: A-
House of M is a great storyline within the Marvel Universe. Better than WandaVision. Which is mediocre in my opinion. If you’re eager to read this gem, order a physical copy in graphic novel format or subscribe to Marvel Unlimited. The choice is yours. Which Marvel crossover storyline should I review next? Please leave a comment. Which Marvel team is your favorite? Again, mine’s X-Men.
