Happy Halloween fellow movie goers and streamers from around the globe. Today’s special review is the latest season of “Wednesday.”
Picking up after Season 1, Wednesday returns to Hogwarts-esque boarding school, Nevermore Academy along with Pugsley who begins his first year. She resumes her investigation, but loses her precognitive ability. Werewolf girl, Enid accompanies her along with a new classmate, Agnes who has the power to turn invisible. Meanwhile, the new principal named, Dort, organizes a fundraiser to recoup expenses after the first season’s chaotic finale. Wednesday’s family show up at Nevermore contributing donations. As Season 2 progresses, deep secrets are uncovered.
Wednesday’s second season was split into two parts. It received positive reviews from critics, fans and streamers alike. A third season is on the horizon.
Today’s review contains no SPOILERS.
Lifted & Cursed Aspects
Lifted: Jenna Ortega reprises her role as the titular character and she did an excellent job for her respective performance.
Previous Cast Members from Season 1 including Emma Myers, Luis Guzmán & Catherine Zeta-Jones all did a decent job for their respective performances.
Newcomers such as Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, Billie Piper and OG Uncle Fester himself, Christopher Lloyd all did solid job for their respective performances.
Tim Burton served as an executive producer.
Alfred Gough & Miles Millar mapped out all eight episodes.
Funny Moment made me laugh.
Cinematography‘s shot in stable condition.
Wednesday’s chemistry with Enid and her family serves as the main highlight.
Wednesday’s family have bigger roles. They don’t feel shoehorned overshadowing the main character. They play significant roles.
Dort factors in as the new principal.
Fun Facts
- Due to scheduling conflicts, Jenna had to decline reprising her role as Tara Carpenter in favor of Wednesday. I get it, not easy being an A-List star juggling between a movie and TV show. Sometimes, you have to sacrifice one thing (no pun intended) in order to continue a project.
- This is the second time Mr. Buscemi played character associated with purple. First, Randall from “Monsters Inc” and Dort who wears a purple uniform. It’s funny because Mr. Pink from “Reservoir Dogs” wants his codename to be Mr. Purple.
- Christina Ricci & Christopher Lloyd signed autographs and took pictures with fans at Fan Expo Dallas. I didn’t get a pic with the latter. My mom and I got our pic withOG Wednesday instead. Good times.

Wednesday loses her ability to see visions raises the stakes. She’s gonna have to solve a mystery the old fashion way.
Like his sister, Pugsley has a special power. He doesn’t see visions, he can shoot lightning like Uncle Fester. To quote Emperor Palpatine, “UNLIMITED POWER!
Season 2 has twist and turns affecting the status quo.
Cursed: A certain episode has a specific flaw.
I wasn’t invested in Enid & Bruno’s romance.
Grandmama’s characterization in the show is gonna irritate the purest fans of The Addams Family. She’s not like previous adaptations.

Steel: Wednesday, Enid & Pugsley go on a camping trip.
Wednesday & Mortica partake in a game.
Somebody hacking a door and peeks his head is an obvious reference to “The Shining.”
A shower scene made me laugh so hard.
A big reveal at the end managed to put a smile on my face.
Anthony Michael Hall guest stars.
Rust: A competition between the Nevermore students and The Boy Scouts has nothing to do with the plot. It feels like an uninteresting side quest.
If These Woes Could Talk
Wednesday seeks Uncle Fester for help on her investigation.
Tim Burton himself voices a parrot. He also directed this episode.

Wednesday starts to act strange. If you know, you know.
Ms. Ortega & Ms. Myers really out did themselves impersonating each other. Indicating, they got range. The pair earn Bonus Points for fleshing out their characters to another level.

The Final Verdict: B, FOR BEAUTY!
I was this close to giving it a B- an average grade. Thanks to Jenna Ortega & Emma Myers’ performances in “Woe Thyself,” it earns a B. If it weren’t for Enid’s one-sided romance and Grandmama’s characterization, the camping episode, I would’ve given Season 2 an A the equivalent of a 9/10. B is close enough. I’m looking forward to Season 3.
