All episodes of Monster’s third season, “Ed Gein Story” are now streaming exclusively on Netflix. The latest season earned negative reviews from critics and streamers alike. A fourth season will focus on Lizzie Borden ignoring the fact we already got Christina Ricci & Chloë Sevigny already played her in separate works. I was curious to try out “Monster: Ed Gein Story” to see why it’s been getting overwhelming negative reactions.
Laurie Metcalf (Jackie from Roseanne) did a decent job for her performance as Ed’s mother, Augusta.
Cinematography’s shot in stable condition.
Random Thoughts
- I’ve only seen Season 1 focusing on Jeffrey Dahmer. It’s been a while since I watched it. Evan Peters knocked it outta the park for his performance that earned him a Golden Globe Award for “Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film.”
- I haven’t seen Season 2 involving the Menendez Brothers. Too busy with a lotta movie and TV shows.
Historical Facts
- Anthony Perkins really had a secret relationship with Tab Hunter. It wasn’t pleasant living as a gay man in the 1950s-1960s. Anthony went on to marry a woman and his son, Osgood is a film director.
- Christine Jorgensen’s the first person to have a successful sex change operation.
- Richard Speck really had a pair of boobs by taking hormone pills. Not kidding.
Ryan Murphy isn’t the one to blame. His fellow collaborator, Ian Brennan actually mapped out eight episodes. He took creative liberties. Despite no involvement, Ryan’s still produced Season 3. Ryan & Ian also co-created that god awful musical-comedy series, “Glee.” Another reason I’m not a big fan of musicals.
Tom Hollander’s fatsuit as Alfred Hitchcock looks fake. Looks like he took Ozempic.
Third episode has the dumbest line. “A reception with pork and beans!”
Pacing loses some steam. Sometimes boring.
Season 3 loses focus on Ed. Shifts to other perspectives including Alfred Hitchcock, Anthony Perkins and Texas Chainsaw Massacre director, Tobe Hooper. This isn’t Ryan Murphy’s other series, “Feud” involving multiple historic figures all at once.
In real life, Ed never wore women’s clothing and lingerie.
Charlie Hunnam’s performance as Ed Gein felt odd. His voice didn’t sound like the real Ed. His voice sounds like the love child of Barney Rubble & Zoolander.
I get Ed had schizophrenia, but it over relies on fantasy sequences in between. In other words, unnecessary padding. For instance, Ed reads a comic book about a Nazi woman. It shifts to a sequence involving the war criminal.
Christine Jorgensen’s song? “I Enjoy Being a Girl” plays in the background. I’m sorry, but the singing sounds like Dylan Mulvaney performing karaoke. Unlike the former, the latter’s a national fuckin’ embarrassment. If I were a trans woman, I’d feel a shame of myself over Dylan’s behavior.
Episode 4 has a fake sex scene. You can tell Ed’s dry humping Bernice with his pants on.
A Dance Number is when Ed’s about to reunite with his mother. That’s impossible. Nobody has the power to sense somebody going to heaven or hell.
In episodes 7-8, Ed’s portrayed as a sympathetic individual suffering from schizophrenia. In understand he had it, but its manipulative glorifying a serial killer. Look, I don’t mind rooting for a bad guy in fiction like my Top 5 favorite supervillains, Deathstroke/Slade Wilson, Joker, Venom, Loki & Harley Quinn. If I find out a friend worships Casey Anthony or Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, I would immediately end a friendship. Ed, Gypsy-Rose & Casey are terrible people. I was raised better. I don’t root for a real life POS.
Season 4 will focus on Lizzie Borden. Ugh! We already have a TV film and follow up series with Christina Ricci. Heck, Chloë Sevigny also played her in a 2018 film. Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan are running out of ideas. They’re big fat phonies!
The Final Verdict: F, FOR FAKER!
Monster’s third season is horrendously bad. Ed Gein Story made me feel gross and depraved. Why? Because sympathizing a serial killer is unethical. Ian Brennan taking creative liberties is another big issue. Now I understand why Osgood Perkins refuses to watch Ed Gein Story. Because he didn’t want to see his late father, Anthony misrepresented. My sympathies go to Osgood. All disrespect to Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan. Do not waste your spare time on Monster’s third season. Watch Ethan Hawke’s latest show, “The Lowdown” on Hulu. You’ll thank me later.
