Demon Slayer: Season 2

Picking up where Season 1 left off, Tanjiro Kamado continues his quest to undo Nezuko’s curse with help from allies Zenitzu & Inosuke. They go on a train where they meet pro slayer, Rengoku. Together they battle Emmu. One storyline later, they team up with former ninja, Tengen Uzui to rescue his three wives from a powerful demon named, Daki.

Demon Slayer’s second season officially aired in 2023 (same year Poor Things came out) on Adult Swim and streamed on Crunchyroll. It received critical acclaim from critics, fans and streamers/viewers alike. Seasons 3-4 later aired and streamed. A film trilogy based on the last story arc, “Final Battle” is intended to complete Tanjiro’s journey. Part One came out recently. Before I prep up for Part One, I better start watching Seasons 2-4. I’m also prepping up for My Hero Academia’s grand finale.

Keep in mind, I won’t discuss a lot about the “Mugen Train Arc”. I already posted a review on Demon Slayer’s first movie. So, don’t forget to check it out. I’m only discussing the pros and cons of the “Entertainment District Arc.”

Today’s review contains no crucial SPOILERS.

Polished & Rusty Aspects

Polished: Voice Actors reprise their roles and they all did a superb job for their respective voiceover performances.

Ray Chase (Cyclops in X-Men ’97) did a decent job for his voiceover performance as Tengen.

Animation has pure high quality. You can tell the animators worked their butts off.

Action Sequences are fantastic. Seeing them in high quality animation kept me on the edge of my seat.

Tanjiro’s chemistry with his allies serves as the main highlight.

Random Thought: Inosuke is my favorite character. He’s tough and funny as heck. He has awesome moments in combat.

Pacing for each episode didn’t feel like a slow burn. I was fully invested.

Tengen’s an interesting character. We get to know about him and his three wives.

Daki’s a higher-class demon. She’s tougher than previous demons our heroes fought. We also learn about Daki prior to her transformation. Think of a boss in any “Dark Souls” flesh out as a three-dimensional character.

Near the end of the Entertainment District Arc, a “Bonus Boss Battle raises the stakes. Again, it’s like Dark Souls.

Season Two expands the Mugen Train Arc into seven episodes. More context regarding Rengoku and his family. Basically, an Extended Cut. It’s optional to watch Mugen Train’s seven episodes.

A Post-Credits Scene is tied to the next episode or a silly moment.

Rusty: Zenitzu’s my least favorite character. In the Mugen Train movie, his whiny antics were tone down. However, he over exaggerates nagging and crying like a big baby.

In early episodes of the Entertainment District Arc, Tanjiro, Zenitzu & Inosuke disguise themselves as courtesans to search for Tengen’s three wives. I find it baffling nobody suspects the trio’s masculine voices. They can’t tell difference between a manly and girly voice. As if nobody can’t tell a restroom designated for males and females.

The Final Verdict: B, FOR BRAVERY!

Demon Slayer’s second season is great. An extended storyline and an immediate follow up arc worth your spare time. The anime equivalent of a double album as in Outkast’s Grammy winner, “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.” Although everybody talks about how Demon Slayer’s a flawless masterpiece, it has very little problems like Zenitzu’s constant nagging.
