In the late ’90s, high school friends, Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg co-wrote a script titled, “Superbad.” Loosely based on their teenage years, the pair took a whopping seven years of brainstorming a cohesive story. After all copious amount of writing material, Judd Apatow helped produced the film. Jonah Hill, Michael Cera & Christopher Mintz-Plasse won roles as a trio of teens who seek to obtain booze in the hopes of scoring chicks.
Released in 2007, (same year Hot Fuzz came out) the film became a sleeper hit both critically and financially. Superbad launched the careers of Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader & Emma Stone. I have one good reason why I wanna share my thoughts on one of my all-time favorite comedies. Christopher Mintz-Plasse himself will attend Fan Expo Dallas 2025 on May 30-June 1. I got plans to take my pics with McLovin himself, Michael J. Fox & Walton Goggins. Once I get my pics, I’ll write an editorial about my three-day experience at the place just as I did last year.
This review contains no SPOILERS. I’m giving ya’ll a chance to see this modern classic comedy.
Sober & Drunk Elements
Sober: Jonah Hill, Michael Cera & Christopher Mintz-Plasse all did a funny as heck job for their respective performances.
Other Cast Members such as Seth Rogen, Bill Hader & Emma Stone all did a decent job for their respective performances.
Fun Fact: Besides Mr. Mintz-Plasse, Emma Stone (one of my favorite actresses) makes her film debut. She’s now a two-time Oscar winner.
Greg Mottola did a terrific job directing.
In addition to playing half of the incompetent cops, Mr. Rogen also co-wrote the script with Evan Goldberg. The dialogue features memorable lines. Every single one made crack up.
- Gangsters what’s up guys!?
- Chicka chicka ya, fake id, fake id!
- You bitched out f**kin’ Judas! People don’t forget.
- Look, we all know home ec is a joke.
- This is really messed up, super gay.
- Wait, you changed your name to McLovin?
- Muhammed is the most commonly used named on Earth.
- One name? Who are you, Seal?
- I am McLovin!
- You look like Pinocchio.
- Take off your vest. You look like Aladdin.
- You’re an organ donor. Seven bucks? Are you f**king serious!?
- McLovin, nice!

- Oh no it’s the cops!
- Prepare to be f**ked by the long dick of the law!
- Holy s**t where you just getting laid?
- F**k me, right!?
- Holy s**t, Fogel’s a badass!
- Break yo’self, fool!
- Tight!
Judd Apatow produced the film. This is before he acted like a Hollywood hypocrite. He condemns Bill Cosby, but he still keeps in touch with James Franco & Lena Dunham. All four of ’em are terrible people.
Cinematography didn’t suffer from technical issues.
Chemistry between Seth & Evan serves as the main highlight.
The film’s influenced by “Dazed and Confused” & “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.”
Seth’s reason why he has a grunge towards Evan’s crush, Becca is hilarious and messed up at the same time.
Dave Franco makes a brief appearance playing soccer.
The film’s title is named after a James Brown song.
If you own a DVD/Blu-Ray copy, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg & Judd Apatow provide audio commentary reflecting on making the film.
The End Credits features Seth’s “exotic drawings.” Not the kind Napoleon Dynamite draws Ligers.
Drunk: I couldn’t find nothing wrong. I’m giving the cast and crew an Extra Point for making a flawless comedy as possible.
The Final Verdict: A, FOR, APEX!
Superbad remains as a modern classic and one of my all-time favorite comedies. If you have not seen this masterpiece, it’s a must-watch. I cannot wait for Fan Expo Dallas 2025. If you have plans to go to the place, please leave a comment.
