SpyxFamily Code: White

Picking up where SpyxFamily’s second season left off, Anya Forger is assigned to cook a delicious treat for the principal in a cooking competition. If she wins, she’ll earn a Stella star. If she earns ’em all, her adopted father, Loid (a spy posing as a psychiatrist) will get a chance to get close to his target in the hopes of preventing a war. He’s not alone, he marries Yor. Unbeknownst to him, she’s a deadly assassin. Thanks to her telepathy, Anya knows her adopted parents’ double lives. The Forgers along with their family pet, Bond go on globetrotting adventure to search for ingredients. Suddenly, they come across an evil military group who plan to start a war.

“SpyxFamily Code: White” is streaming on Crunchyroll. The first film in the anime/manga series earned positive reviews from critics, fans and movie goers alike. In addition to good reception, it made enough revenue at the box office. A third season’s currently in development.

Clean & Messy Aspects

Clean: Voice Actors reprise their roles from the show and they all did an excellent job for their respective voiceover performances.

John Swasey (All for One from My Hero Academia) did a decent job voicing main antagonist, Snidel. He’s one of the best villains of 2024 alongside others below. All of ’em are better than Ezekiel Sims from “Madame Web.” He’s the worst bad guy in recent years.

  • Cassandra Cain – Deadpool and Wolverine
  • Sue – The Substance
  • Dementus – Furiosa
  • Feyd-Rautha – Dune: Part Two
  • Skar King – Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire
  • Proximus Caesar – Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Animation looks clean bringing a few elements to life including character models, fluid animation, lighting and environmental locations.

Action Sequences were awesome. Loid & Yor have their epic moments mowing down enemies. Better fight choreography than “The Master of Disguise.” Loid & Yor are highly skilled like “Leon: The Professional.”

Humor has some funny as heck moments. I didn’t expect a surreal sequence. I thought it was hilarious. You cannot forget Anya’s facial expressions.

Fun Fact: Marketing for Code: White mimics “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One.”

Pacing didn’t feel like a drab at all. I was hooked since the beginning.

Chemistry between Loid, Yor & Anya serves as the main highlight.

In case you haven’t watched Seasons 1-2, a brief recap on how the Forgers became a family.

Becky, Damian & Frankie appear in small roles.

A Post-Credits Scene is optional. Doesn’t necessarily set up Season 3.

Messy: Loid comes up with an excuse he’s an experience pilot as part of a top-secret mission. Yor fails to connect the dots. If Loid married Natasha Lyonne’s character, Charlie Cale from “Poker Face,” she would’ve easily figured out Loid’s lie. Charlie has a special skill she can tell a person’s lying. On my previous reviews, both Loid & Yor are oblivious towards each other.

The Final Verdict: A-

Despite one gripe, I really enjoyed SpyxFamily Code: White. I’m shocked the Golden Globes 2025 didn’t nominate it for “Best Animated Feature Film.” If you’re a fan anime enthusiast or prepping up for SpyxFamily’s third season, watch the first two seasons and Code: White. Another good movie in 2024 crossed off. Once I see 12 films, I’ll write an editorial on my Top 12 Favorite Films of 2024.

I’m officially caught on SpyxFamily. Which anime series should I review next? Please leave a comment.
