SpyxFamily: Season 2

Picking up where Season 1 left off seasoned spy, Loid Forger continues his mission posing as a psychologist. He enrolls Anya at a high-class school in order to get close to his designated target. Yor keeps a low-profile as Loid’s wife. Thanks to her telepathy, Anya’s the only one who knows about their double lives. All three members of the Forger Family keep their secrets discreet. They also adopt a dog named, Bond. He has the power to see the future.

SpyxFamily’s second season officially streamed in 2023 (same year Godzilla Minus One came out) on Crunchyroll. It received positive reviews from critics, fans and streamers alike. A follow-up film titled, “SpyxFamily Code: White” is also streaming on Crunchyroll. A third season is in the works. As an anime enthusiast, I wanna share my thoughts on Season 2. I’m also waiting patiently for My Hero Academia’s eighth and final season.

Clean & Messy Aspects

Clean: Voice Actors reprise their roles and they all did a superb job for their respective performances.

Animation looks crisp and clean bringing elements to life including character models, fluid movement lighting and environmental locations.

Action Sequences are awesome as heck. Yor has an epic moment mowing down thugs on a cruise ship. She went full “Kill Bill” on ’em.

Humor has a lot of funny as heck moments. Especially, Anya’s facial expressions. Her smug face became a meme. She did it again in Episode 29 while playing Old Maid. It’s a card game.

A spy or assassin who has a double life and keeps it discreet towards loved ones reminds me of “True Lies” & “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Plus, SpyxFamily’s an action-comedy.

Chemistry between Loid, Yor & Anya serves as the main highlight.

Pacing wasn’t a drab at all. I didn’t get bored. More entertaining than The Little Mermaid’s live-action remake.

My favorite episodes involve the Forgers (excluding Bond) going on a cruise. It’s basically “Die Hard” on a ship or in this case, Steven Siegel’s “Under Siege.” Ten times better than “Speed 2.” Speaking of Die Hard, one of the thugs resembles John McClane.

Becky’s my favorite character. She’s funny as heck. I’m glad Becky shows up in Episode 36 with a bigger role.

Season 2’s Opening Credits are impossible to skip. Song’s called “Kura Kura” by Ado. It deserves Bonus Points. I haven’t seen an awesome yet wacky Opening Credits sequence since “Chainsaw Man.” I’ll take Kura Kura over anything by JoJo Siwa. Especially “Karma.” UGH! I hate her tunes.

Stay tuned for a Post-Credits Scene.

Messy: In Episode 36, Yor wins a “Test Your Strength” game using way too much muscle causing heavy damage. Loid ignores the fact she’s not an ordinary woman. It’s like that stupid playground fight scene from “Daredevil” with Matt Murdock & Elektra fighting in front of kids. They don’t realize a blind dude’s actually Daredevil.

The Final Verdict: A-

SpyxFamily’s second season’s near-perfect. Despite one nitpick, I really enjoyed all twelve episodes. If you’re not caught with Season 2, it’s a must-watch definitely worth your spare time.
