Deadpool and Wolverine

After Disney bought 20th Century Fox for $71 billion in 2019, Marvel Studios plan on integrating X-Men, Deadpool & Fantastic Four within the Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU for short. The MCU’s been sloppy since Phase 4 either a hit and miss in movie and TV format. My two favorite films in The Multiverse Saga are “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3″ & Spider-Man: No Way Home.” As for Disney Plus shows, Loki’s awesome along with “What If” & Moon Knight.” Last Marvel movies I saw were “The Marvels” and the worst film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is none other than “Madame Web.”

Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman announced were reprising their roles as “Deadpool and Wolverine.” When I saw photo of Hugh wearing the yellow and blue suit, it put a smile on my face. It was a childhood dream come true. I always wanted to see my favorite Marvel superhero wear his costume on the big screen. Back then, Fox was inspired by “The Matrix” They scrapped the comic book costumes in favor of black suits. This is why we can’t have nice things. Anyway, I listed Deadpool and Wolverine as my second highly anticipated film of 2024.

Marketing for the film partnered various sponsors like Heineken, Burger King and Jack in the Box by bringing fans on the hype train including listed below. Popcorns buckets are a trend these days. You got the sandworm from “Dune,” Ghostface’s mask from “Scream,” the Xenomorph’s head from “Alien” etc. I went on a hunt to buy the Wolverine popcorn bucket at AMC Theaters. Unfortunately, they sold out like Turbo Man toys off of “Jingle All the Way.” I didn’t cry over the hottest fad, my only desire is to see two of my favorite Marvel superheroes teaming up set in the MCU.

Marvel Studios’ latest entry in The Multiverse Saga is breaking box office records and positive reviews. Recently, at San Diego Comic- Con 2024, Kevin Feige confirmed Kang’s kicked out after Jonathan Majors got fired for abusing his ex-girlfriend. Doctor Doom takes over The Multiverse Saga. I’m not making this up. Robert Downey Jr. will portray the Fantastic Four’s archenemy. He’ll appear in ” Avengers: Secret Wars” & “Avengers: Doomsday.” They’ll be released on May 1, 2026 and May 7, 2027. Mark your calendars.

Today’s review contains no crucial SPOILERS. Does it live up to the hype?

Shiny & Rusty Elements

Shiny: Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman both did excellent job for their respective performances as the titular duo. Ryan also co-produced the film courtesy of his production company, Maximum Effort.

Other Cast Members such as Emma Corrin & Matthew MacFadyen both did a solid job for their respective performances.

Morena Baccarin, Briana Hilderbrand, Karan Soni, Rob Delaney & Leslie Uggams reprise their roles from the last two Deadpool films.

Shawn Levy did a great job directing. He also co-wrote the script with Ryan.

Rhett Reese (Monsters’ Inc) & Paul Wernick (Zombieland) co-wrote the script. They previously worked on the first two Deadpool films.

Action Sequences contain gratuitous blood and gore. Word of caution, this isn’t the type of superhero movie your kids see. It’s filled with hard R violence, swearing and risqué humor. In the words of the robotic announcer from Adult Swim Action. “Put the kids to bed and get ready to get down.

Humor retains Deadpool’s meta jokes. Most notably, “fourth wall breaking.” He also takes potshots at Disney, Kevin Feige and Marvel itself. I love it when movie goers have a fun time.

Rob Simonsen (The Way Back, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Whale) orchestrated the soundtrack.

Visual Effects are ten times better than Madame Web.

Chemistry between the duo serves as the main highlight. Gotta love their potty mouths. I care about them more than Carol Danvers, Monica Rambo & Kamala Khan. The Marvels’ a stinker.

Remember that one promo with Wade & Logan promoting their film on Spotify? There’s a setlist featuring songs from the film along with other songs from previous Deadpool films. The songs (excluding Deadpool 1-2) are featured in the film itself.

Opening Scene indicates you’re about to laugh your butt off.

Shawn & Ryan confirmed the story’s influenced by ’80s buddy comedies such as “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” “48 Hours,” “Midnight Run” & “Lethal Weapon.”

Callbacks from previous installments.

Unlike Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga – Part One,” I didn’t get bored. The audience and I were having a good time from start to finish.

There’s a ton of cameos featuring familiar faces. Some of the cameos eventually play a huge part within the story.

After 24 years not wearing the wearing the yellow and blue outfit, we finally get to see Hugh wear the costume. Another awesome addition, he wears the mask. It deserves Bonus Points for making my childhood dream come true to see my all-time favorite Marvel superhero wearing his iconic outfit on the big screen.

A Mid-Credits Scene features a behind-the-scenes montage of Fox’ Marvel films with Green Day’s “Good Riddance” in the background. Paying homage to Seinfeld’s series finale, but better. I prefer Green Day’s song over Judy Garland’s “Over the Rainbow.” Sorry fellas, I hate song. It’s been done to death numerous times in other movies and shows.

A Post-Credits Scene pays off a joke.

Rusty: If you’re new to the MCU, or just a casual movie goer with no comic book knowledge, you’re gonna be lost. I get why some critics are sharing divisive reactions. It’s not a unique comic book movie like Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar winning performance as “Joker” without Batman or a Tennessee Williams play. Just an over-the-top superhero popcorn flick catered to comic book fans like me. I’ll let this flaw slide.

The Final Verdict: A, FOR APEX!

Deadpool and Wolverine’s a must-see for Marvel fans. As of mid-2024, this one’s my favorite film of 2024. I cannot wait to see more mutants in the MCU. Which mutant do you wanna see in the MCU? I want Gambit. Only MCU films I’m looking forward to are Avengers: Secret Wars & Avengers: Doomsday.
