Quarantine

“Quarantine” was officially released in 2008. (same year The Strangers came out) It received mixed reviews from critics and movie goers alike. Regardless of divisive reactions, the movie made enough money at the box office. When I was sophomore in high school, I remember watching a trailer for Quarantine. At first, I was interested in seeing a found footage movie after watching my favorite Kaiju movie, “Cloverfield.” Suddenly, the trailer gave away the main character’s fate. OOPSY DAISY! I didn’t realize Quarantine’s also a remake of a Spanish movie. Never seen it.

Anyway, it’s Halloween Month 2023. I’m reviewing a several Horror movies throughout October. Which one should I review next? Please a comment and I’ll reply back.

It doesn’t matter if SPOILERS are present. Again, the trailer gave away the main character’s fate.

Healthy & Sick Qualities

Healthy: Jennifer Carpenter (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) did a solid job for her performance.

Jay Hernandez (El Diablo from Suicide Squad) also did a solid job for his performance.

Cinematography captures a point of view shot of a camcorder. Makes it look like tagging along with the firemen.

Prosthetic Makeup transformed a few actors into infected people.

A Plot Twist reveals a guy was responsible for stealing a biological weapon. A member of a doomsday cult. Thus, the apartment becomes Raccoon City from “Resident Evil.”

Fun Fact 1: Joey King appears as a little girl. 2008 marks her cinematic debut in “Horton Hears a Who” & Quarantine. She’s also one of my favorite actresses. So far, Joey’s career is doing great. By the way, she voiced Katie from the former movie. That one scene with her disappearing in the bushes like Homer Simpson.

Fun Fact 2: The movie takes place on March 8, 2008. A day before “Super Smash Bros Brawl.” came out.

Sick: Unlike Cloverfield’s first act letting the audience get to know characters at a fun party, a firefighter documentary is boring as heck. I’d rather watch “MTV Cribs.”

Characters are completely forgettable. I didn’t care about every single one.

Pacing felt like a drab. I wasn’t totally invested.

Scare Factor lacks legit terror. I wasn’t scared at all. Not one little bit. Large Marge’s face from “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” is a million times scarier.

The poster accidentally gave away Angela’s death. Marketing 101, you cannot reveal crucial plot details whether it’s a poster or trailer. Other movies that spill the beans are listed below.

  1. Free Willy
  2. Cast Away
  3. Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle
  4. Terminator: Salvation
  5. Funny People
  6. Up
  7. The Call
  8. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
  9. Terminator: Genisys
  10. Batman vs. Superman
  11. Spider-Man: Homecoming
  12. Please Stand By

The Final Verdict: D, FOR DUMMY!

Quarantine is a miscalculation. It would’ve been an improvement if the trailer and poster didn’t show the main character’s end as well as legit scary scenes and interesting characters you want to see make it out. If you wanna see a really good found footage movie, watch Cloverfield. One more thing, buy the “Dead Space” remake on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. Thank goodness Joey King made it big in Hollywood. I cannot wait to see her in “Uglies.”
