After “Fast Five” became a critical and box office hit, Universal Pictures green-lit a sixth installment of “The Fast and The Furious” series known as “Fast and Furious 6.” Released in 2013, (same year Charli XCX’s debut album True Romance came out) Fast and Furious 6 earned positive reviews from critics and movie goers alike. In addition to praise, the sixth installment of The Fast Saga made a lot of money at the box office. “Fast X” is the most recent installment of The Fast Saga. An upcoming eleventh entry will be released around 2025. As a fan of The Fast Saga, I wanna share my thoughts on the sixth movie.
It doesn’t matter if SPOILERS are listed. Let’s face it, we’ve all seen the Fast and the Furious movies growing up. Dom bringing up “family” is forever cemented as a meme.
Fast & Slow Aspects
Fast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot & Jordana Brewster reprise their roles. They all did an excellent job for their respective performances.
Luke Evans did a decent job for his performance as Owen Shaw.
Vin also co-produced the movie with Neal H. Moritz.
Justin Lin did a solid job directing the sixth installment.
Chris Morgan (Wanted) wrote the script.
Action Sequences managed to keep my testosterone levels go up. My favorite has got to be the climatic airplane scene.
Humor has some legit funny as heck moments. Especially Roman (my favorite character) as the Comic Relief. For an action movie, it has better comedy than these unfunny comedies of 2013. So, here’s a list.
- The Hangover Part III
- A Haunted House
- The Starving Games
- The Lone Ranger
- Swindle
- Movie 43
- Scary Movie 5
- The Big Wedding
- R.I.P.D.
- The Smurfs 2
- A Madea Christmas
Cinematography didn’t suffer from any technical issues throughout.
Chemistry between Dom, Brian, Luke and the crew serves as the main highlight. Their teamwork moves the story forward.
Practical Effects were heavily involved. C.G.I. was used sparingly.
Picking up where Fast Five left off, Luke recruits Dom, Brian and the crew to track down Owen Shaw in exchange for pardon.
Luke interrogates one of Owen’s men using his bare hands, pays homage to “The Dark Knight.” Except he doesn’t shout, “Where are they?!” By the way, Christopher Nolan’s a huge fan of The Fast Saga.
Luke’s been called Captain America, Thor & Hulk. “Iron Man 3” & “Thor: The Dark World” & “Lego Marvel Super Heroes” came out in 2013.
A Plot Twist reveals Riley’s been working with Owen all along. Cue M. Night Shyamalan’s quote in “Robot Chicken.” “What a twist!”
It’s revealed Letty survived her death from the fourth movie. She gets amnesia.
Taika Waititi’s wife, Rita Ora makes a cameo appearance.
2 Chainz & Wiz Khalifa’s song “We Own It” plays during the Opening Credits. I’m appalled they didn’t get an Oscar for “Best Original Song.” Too bad the Academy gave the Oscar to Frozen’s obnoxious song “Let It Go.” More like, “Let It Groan.” This is why we can’t have nice things.
A Mid-Credits Scene fast forwards to Han’s car chase in “Tokyo Drift.” He gets hit by an oncoming car. The driver’s face is Owen’s brother Deckard (played by my favorite action star Jason Statham) who calls Dom to send him a message. Leaving Han to die from an explosion. He actually lives in “F9.” When I first saw the Mid-Credits Scene, everybody in the movie theater including me cheered when Mr. Statham shows up.
Slow: Most of the action scenes don’t obey the laws of physics. Especially Dom propelling himself like Gonzo (from The Muppets) out of his car to catch Letty in the air. He catches her continuing like a bullet before landing in a car’s front window. I’m willing to forgive the series’ over-the-top action. So, I’ll let this con slide.
Product Placement is everywhere. Coca-Cola, Butterfinger, Crunch, Nokia, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Corona, Hp, Nissan & BMW.
The Final Verdict: A-
Fast and Furious 6 is another near-perfect installment of The Fast Saga. If you’re prepping up for the eleventh entry, take your time and watch every single movie in chronological order.
