The Boys: Season 3

The Boys’ third season officially streamed in 2022 (same year Bullet Train came out) on Amazon Prime. It received positive reviews from critics, fans and streamers alike. A fourth season is in the works. Seth Rogen co-wrote and co-produce an animated theatrical reboot of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” known as “Mutant Mayhem.” I plan on streaming it on Paramount Plus. Anthony Starr will reprise his role as Homelander in “Mortal Kombat 1” as a guest fighter. NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming reboot of the “Mortal Kombat” series will be released on September 19, 2023.

This review contains no SPOILERS. If you’re not up to date, a recap of Season 2 list important plot points. Tread carefully.

Good & Evil Aspects

Good: Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Jessie T. Usher, Dominique McElligot, Chance Crawford & Giancarlo Esposito all did an excellent job for their respective performances.

Jensen Ackles did a decent job for his performance as Soldier Boy.

Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg & Neal H. Moritz serve as executive producers.

Action Sequences are not afraid to show a bloody mess.

Humor contains black comedy, satirical depiction of superheroes portrayed as self-absorbed fame mongering jerks.

Visual Effects are Class A. They’re not fake like “She-Hulk.”

Here’s a recap of Season 2.

  • Turns out Stormfront is a Nazi. She forms a relationship with Homelander.
  • Stormfront murders Kimiko’s brother, Kenji.
  • The CIA erase The Boys’ rap sheet. They’re no longer wanted.
  • Ryan uses heat vision causing Stormfront to lose her arms and legs. He accidentally injures Becca.
  • Butcher makes a promise to Becca. Keep Ryan safe from Homelander.
  • Maeve blackmails Homelander. If he kills Butcher, she’ll upload a video of him leaving passengers on an airplane to die. Homelander spares Butcher in order to protect his public image.
  • The Deep joins a Scientology-esque cult by marrying a woman chosen by them and fix his image.
  • Hughie’s a Billy Joel fan.
  • Neuman is the one who caused a congressman and random people by blowing their heads off like balloons.

Mother’s Milk or MM for short, has a personal vendetta against Soldier Boy.

A drug called, Compound V acts as a plot device. Another variant factors in.

Primary Themes are Fame, Greed, Manipulation, Jealously, Deception & Narcissism. Each one’s handled carefully.

Evil: Cinematography can be janky at times.

Episode 17 – Payback

I did not expect the show going way too far one specific scene. To quote Sam Jackson’s line from “Pulp Fiction.” “This is some f***ed up repugnant s**t!”

Butcher, Kimiko & Frenchie fight a supe.

Starlight’s given an offer.

Homelander makes a proposition.

Hughie discovers something bad.

Charlize Theron makes a cameo appearance.

Simon Pegg makes a brief appearance as Hughie’s dad.

Episode 18 – The Only Man in the Sky

A fake movie trailer pokes fun at cheesy Lifetime movies.

Voughtland’s a parody of Disneyland. It’s disturbingly relevant given the fact Disneyland hired a dude with a mustache as Fairy Godmother’s apprentice greeting little girls. What made it worse? They allowed Casey Anthony as a guest. So, effed up.

Homelander crosses a huge line.

A prominent character dies.

Butcher tests out Vought’s temporary drug.

Homelander delivers a public speech.

Episode 19 – Barbary Coast

A flashback shows Soldier Boy in action.

The Deep has a “pleasant lunch.” He even has a gross-out scene.

Episode 20 – Glorious Five-Year Plan

A cheesy music video got me crackin’ up.

A scene makes fun of Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi ad.

A battle ensues.

A shocking moment towards the end.

Episode 21 – The Last Time to Look on This World of Lies

A Dance Number didn’t feel outta place. It made perfect sense on a pair’s relationship. Thank goodness it wasn’t cringy as heck like that random musical moment with the cast of “American Horror Story: Coven” dancing to “The Name Game.” I find The Boys’ dance scene’s on the same grade as “La La Land.”

Seth Rogen makes a cameo appearance.

Butcher makes a drastic choice.

Episode 22 – Herogasm

This episode is totally insane. You don’t wanna know. I haven’t seen a series going that far since “Doom Patrol.”

A viral video mocks Gal Gadot’s ridiculous video encouraging celebrities to sing “Imagine” during the COVID-19 outbreak. All they did was sit on their lazy asses, rather than providing help for the people suffering miserably.

Starlight makes a life changing decision.

A-Train does something brutal.

Episode 23 – Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed

One character has a surreal scene talking to imaginary friends.

Butcher experiences unpleasant flashbacks.

A Plot Twist changes everything. Now that a twist done right. Ten times better than Reva (from the Obi-Wan mini-series) as a youngling before she became a Sith Inquisitor.

Episode 24 – The Instant White-Hot Wild

After seven episodes of buildup, a big battle ensues.

An important character meets his/her end.

Starlight has an awesome moment.

Last Scene sets up Season 4.

The Final Verdict: A-

The Boys’ third season is a near-perfect eight-part story arc worth your spare time. I cannot wait for the next season.
