Wonder Woman

It was a time when comics were becoming a fad due to the popularity of Superman, the one who started an era called “The Golden Age Of Comics.” During the WWII years, many superheroes were created such as Batman, Captain America, Shazam, Aquaman, The Flash, among many others iconic characters.

In 1941, a psychologist turned comic book writer named, William Morton introduced a female superhero for the first time in comic book history called Wonder Woman. This was during a period when comics were were being marketed for the male demographic. As the years went on, the character’s legacy inspired more female superheroes including Batgirl, Supergirl, Black Widow, Gamora, The Powerpuff Girls, Starfire, Raven, She-Hulk etc.

After many appearances on television most notably the 70’s TV show featuring Lynda Carter as the title character. Animated cartoons like Superfriends and Justice League. Video Game appearances in Injustice 1 & 2, Lego Batman games, and Lego Dimensions. Her first ever chronological appearance to appear on the silver screen is The Lego Movie, two years prior to her live action film debut which is Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. After many years of development, it was time to give The Warrior Princess her very first solo film starring Gal Gadot.

Wonder Woman became a surprise hit among critics and fans of DC Comics. It is making money at the box office.

Today’s following article contains no SPOILERS. Feel free to read it if you haven’t got chance to witness her solo movie.

Beautiful & Negative Elements

Beautiful: The performances from Gal Gadot and Chris Pine was the highlight of this film including their chemistry together which felt natural, it makes you care for them.

Other Cast Members such as Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen & David Thewlis all did a decent job for their respective performances.

Patty Jenkins did an excellent job directing the film. She made sure to stay true to Wonder Woman’s source material.

The tone is lighter with suitable humor. WB must’ve taken some notes on why Superman can’t be Nolafied. It means most filmmakers directing superhero pictures are trying to imitate Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy to make it feel more darker, realistic, mopey, philosophical, dramatic, emo, tragic, edgy, gothic, depressing, gritty, grungy, sad, adult, you name it.

Hollywood has finally shown the origins of Wonder Woman on the big screen, completing DC’s holy trinity. All we have left to complete the solo adventures of the remaining founding members of the Justice League are Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg, and a proper Green Lantern adaptation. (Ryan Reynolds’ version doesn’t count, it stank)

The Action Scenes got my blood pumping from start to finish. Wonder Woman’s fight scenes were pretty good. The Lasso Of Truth wasn’t cheesy at all.

The set pieces during WWI felt historically authentic for the time period.

The Visual Effects weren’t cheesy or outdated. At least they didn’t resemble the effects from Halle Berry’s Catwoman. Ugh!

The source material to the Wonder Woman lore was carefully crafted to make it an epic action-adventure romantic fantasy war story wrapped into one complete package.

Wonder Woman’s costume is based on The New 52 outfit.

Fun Fact: For the first time in cinematic history, a female director is the first person to direct a critical and box office success of a superhero film. Finally, somebody who understands the concept of a female superhero unlike past directors who made Supergirl, Catwoman & Elecktra.

The color filter is clean in several scenes, the war scenes have the dirty and grungy filter which is okay for the war setting.

Cinematography felt normal lacking Shaky Cam. Thank goodness the cameraman didn’t consume lots of coffee.

No in your face ultra feminist propaganda weren’t blatantly added. Wonder Woman is actually for boys and girls.

The Main Antagonist depicted in this film is kept under wraps in the marketing campaign. WB finally learned their lesson on not giving way too much info from their trailers since Doomsday’s appearance in Batman VS. Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

The Fish Out Of Water element gave me a couple of laugh out loud moments. Not to worry it didn’t go way too overboard like Austin Powers. You know the part when Austin mistakenly punches an old lady believing to be Dr. Evil’s informant?

The stakes drastically increase during a battle between Wonder Woman & the mystery villain. Again, I refuse to give away the bad guy’s identity.

A big twist is involved in this movie. Won’t tell you why, you’re gonna have to see for yourself.

Negative: I don’t recall if there were any flaws in it. I’m surprised I didn’t say “Hey this wasn’t supposed to happen.” I will give The Cast & Crew an Extra Point for making a film as flawless as they can.

The Final Verdict: A, FOR APEX!

Wonder Woman is probably one of the best superhero movies of the year next to The Lego Batman Movie, Logan and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. But 2017 isn’t over til it’s over when every film is out this year, then I’ll go back and see which was better than the last film by ranking them which one is the best film of 2017.

Thank you DC Comics & Warner Bros. for developing a proper film based on one of the founding members of the Justice League. My mom (special shout out to you mom) grew up watching the Linda Carter version on TV and she really enjoyed this movie. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for the future.
