John Wick

What do most Action Heroes have in common? The keyword is Revenge. One man in particular is John Wick.

John Wick was released in October 24, 2014. It became a surprise hit for movie goers and critics alike. The movie made a profit grossing $88 million on a $29 million dollar budget. The success encouraged Lionsgate to plant seeds for another film franchise next to The Hunger Games Trilogy and what the heck are they still hiring Tyler Perry to create a Madea Cinematic Universe? I prefer Marvel not Madea. Marvel Cinematic Universe is the real MCU.

The following review is a non-spoiler article, just in case if you haven’t seen the film.

Pros: Keanu Reeves, Willem Dafoe, and Michael Nyqvist, all did a superb job on their performances.

The Sole Reason on why Wick is hunting down the assassins is heartbreaking and it felt unique.

Action Sequences are filled with Grade A gun battles, stealth takedowns, and melee attacks. This proves how much Wick is a one man army.

The Tone/Style for the movie is inspired by several Sub-Genres of action films such as Gun Fu, Martial Arts, Hong Kong Cinema, Bruce Lee, Anime, Clint Eastwood in The Dollars Trilogy, Spaghetti Western, and The Matrix Trilogy. (Also starred Keanu Reeves as the lead character Neo)

Cinematography looked decent.

The Climatic Battle got me satisfied.

Someone with a Cool Codename is called “Baba Yaga.”

Without giving too much away, Wick isn’t the only one hunting down his enemies. Let’s just say Elmer Fudd gets a taste of his own medicine.

The Visual Effects didn’t resemble the wheelchair scene from Mac And Me.

Cons: If you’re a big time animal lover, you’re gonna be mortified, remember, no animals were harmed in the making of this picture. This is just a negative option, in case if you don’t wanna witness an animal’s demise.

The one flaw in this film is The Villain’s motivation.  Nyqvist’ character could’ve been fleshed out more on his friendship with Wick.

The Final Verdict: A-

I thought the film was amazing, Keanu Reeves is still capable as an Action Hero. If you’re interested in this film, give it a shot and don’t forget the sequel to the first film.

Rumors spectaculte that there’s gonna be a possible crossover between John Wick and Atomic Blonde. I would love to see Neo fighting Furiousa going mono e mono. Please Lionsgate and Universal, make this happen!
